Lotus Elan Central

finally got my elan,however instead of spare tyre and jack i've got a big speaker!any advice as to which type of wheel i need to get (was it taken from a vauxhall?) and i believe i need a jack with a hole as the jack points have a nut at them,again any advice.thanks

thanks for the kind offer.cant stop driving around at the moment [smiley=driving.gif],but you may just be to far away! was hoping some one would know it was off,say a vauxhall nova then i could go to a scrap yard or vauxhall dealer and get one. sure i'll be able to work something out.if not sy i'll be in touch. thanks stevo.would ve replied sooner but work commitments have had me away from the web for a while. i went to a scrapyard and tried some spacesavers from a pile untill one fitted.not sure what make it was from,but ive been told a vauxhall and polo should fit for anyone else who has this problem. can now relax on those long drives(and ditch the tyre weld!) c'mon the sun! Yep, I just pulled the one out of my '95 polo and compared it with the one in my '91 Elan. Not exactly the same aesthetically but the same dimensions and materials spec, which is what's important; I'd be just as comfortable using either.

You are right! and as my wheels are going in for refurb; I thought I should do the right thing! Not driven it like this though, not likely too either (if I can avoid it).

The fit is snug and the car moved a few feet OK when I pushed it back to take the photo.

are you sure that equates to a 15" rim with 55 profile tyre or a 16" rim with 45 profiles on......it looks to ne like you might be 'off' balance.....
Ive never actually had my spare wheel out.....think its about time I took a look.......
surely the outer radius of whatever you put on needs to be the same as that which youve just removed.....or am I wrong......
Ive never used a space saver tyre.....not had a puncture for about 10 years or more....touch wood (preferably with out nails in!!).....
last puncture I had the car had a normal alloy!
just a thought as that wheel youve put on looks very small compared to what youve taken off and also that the polo will have something like a 13" rim

G, you are absolutely right :!:

hence my "not likely to either" comment, I don't like the look of the space saver either. When I tried to get my head arround the whole reasoning of it, the benefits did not outweigh the drawbacks!

However the polo space saver wheel does appear to be the same as the Lotus, just try and put a Lotus wheel in the moulded space in the boot! If it were bigger I'd have one of my OZs in there
