Some of you will have read that we've recently tightened up the anti-spam measures on the site. This has (largely) been a success.
There has also been a recent increase in non-member postings (either inadvertent or otherwise) which has caused general annoyance.
Whilst we cannot control the hosts meddling around and necessitating us all having to re-login from time-to-time, it is still possible to make a number of posts before realising that you've been logged out and that you've have been posting as an apparent non-member.
To address this (and the intentional 'log out and post anonymously' syndrome) we've decided to remove the guest posting privileges completely. This is not something we've done lightly - it has followed several weeks’ worth of administrative discussions.
To this end, all public areas of the Forum now have the following settings:
View Posts - All
Read Posts - All
Post - Members
Reply - Members
Edit - Members
Delete - Moderators
Make Sticky - Moderators

We are aware that these measures don't come without implications and, if we’re approached by individuals who have some interest in a temporary relaxation of these settings (in specific areas) we will listen sympathetically. For instance, these measures won't assist Stef's GBoR attempt and we may well allow non-members to post in that area as the time approaches.
Furthermore, we're going to introduce a non-members area where logging on is not necessary. This may assist our more cosmopolitan members who occasionally have to post from Internet Cafes etc.
It might also encourage some unwanted and unwarranted behaviour and, as such, will be heavily moderated and toasted completely, if it all goes pear-shaped!
