Issey,
Where in the NW are u?
Don`t just assume it`s the gearbox, take the car to a garage or specialist.

I do my own work on my car, but try Chris foulds in huddersfield
fouldsmotors.com/ he`s not cheap but knows the elans very well and won`t cost anything for a diagnose/quote.
The only thing i`ve had done is a cambelt at a garage in rochdale and he`s alot cheaper, if u need the contact info let me know as i`ll have to find the details.
ps what colour is u`r Elan?

Without knowing anything else, if the gearbox has gone you are going to be lucky to get £3k for it...

Phil,
1st thing is let the garage look at it as it maybe something simple ie wheel bearings, driveshafts.
If u decide to sell then maybe put it in the for sale section, but i hope u keep hold of it.

thank mate , i took the my car down to the garage this morning its not far from me, the car was still making the bad noise's and more when i was going around bends or coners, but i found some oil leek come from under the car, and it looklike it could be gear oils i think, my friend said he think the driver shaft has gone on it we had it on the ramp and test the wheel but u could could tell more when it was driving, but he say there oils coming from under the car from somewhere under the car 2 , how much do u think i would be looking for 4 a drive shaft for the car, and how easy r they to put in thanks Phil
