David,

Welcome to LEC.

I don't know if you have come across the S2 register thread but I can't find you name on the S2 database. If you haven't sent your details to Gazza, I would encourage you to do so, as he has set himself the unenviable task of tracking down all 700 S2's and could do with all the help we can give him.

Alan, don't give up on the chips now mate; I went to your site and was gonna plunk down the dough for an Everest! Like so many climbers you have died this winter! Isn't all the hard work already done at this point? As my company has kept me on for yet another rockin' year I was/am ready to "chip-up."

BTW for those of you that think this is hard bullsh%^&t on that shiznat. Can you be troubled to undo a couple of 10mm bolts then snap a chip home? Much harder to plumb and then adjust an MBC, me boyee.

In all honesty Alan, you put more effort and heart into producing what I consider the most impressive and technically advanced aftermarket product for the Elan ever made. Of course, I have to say that Brian's Wilwood brake-package WILL someday save your life... if you value that sort of thing. However at 44 I've outlived 2-brothers so at this point am ready for a firefight in Afghanistan!

My dad gave me his old Garand M1, a Lugar, a box of grenades and 4 German potato-mashers this Xmas. Driving around with the Garrand (no external-clip but a rather big & heavy mother) in the car and just walking down the street with it slung up over my shoulder (totally legal here, protected by local law) cuts a wide swath on the sidewalk!

Ignore what I say. (good advice)

Its not canned forever - my father became quite ill in December so I'm spending a lot of time away from base and I don't need the hassle I usually get if I don't send out chips quite quickly.

Anyone who wants one now should E.mail or PM me I'll sort it out and then ask for payment when I'm in a position to ship it, it might take a week or two to get to that point.

Alan, thoughts are with you at what must be a difficult time, I sincerely hope for a recovery for your Father. Understand entirely you not needing the hassle, the best thing about hobbies is you can (should) be able to pick them up and put them down as it suits you and no one else. Hope to see you at Donington but if not I'm sure all will understand.

Thanks guys.

He's on the mend now but I'll be going up to Glasgow most weekends for a month or two anyway.

I'm stocking back up on packaging and that kind of stuff, I'll put the chip shop back up next week.

ESM Chips

Postby algirdas » Sat 13.01.2007, 17:39

Dear Alan:

I know exactly what you are going through. I have two parents in that situation and, as an only child, the weight of the situation sits squarely on my shoulders. My prayers go out to you.

I probably know the answer to this already, but if there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask. Even if it is as simple as buying you a shot and a beer at Donington or whenever wherever.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Thanks Algirdas, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

I'm going to have to get some more stock I've counted up the pms and e.mails of interest (and the kits available) and it comes to more chips than I've sold in the last nine months! I'll supply them in order the messages arrived - I should be able to supply 70% or so from existing stock.

Alan,
I'm glad to hear that things are improving for you. I sincerely hope they continue to improve as the year progresses.

Could you let me know how much the different chips currently cost please? Including p&p.
Many thanks, Paul

Alan, glad to hear things are improving on the family side. I suspect many of us are at the stage where family members are getting to that point where health issues are a concern.

I was wondering if you could tell me where you are in the Rev cycles as far as chips go. Last I heard you were on a v5.0 and I was wondering if you were releasing it, if it was still being worked on or if it was replaced with an even newer version. Thanks!

I've got a V5 (includes a modified power enrichment map) but I'm reluctant to issue it in the form of previous releases as it takes out the significant safety margin the rich mixture provides. What I want to do is supply a switchable chip which can be switched to V5, V4 stock or whatever. The chip/adapter I have in mind can switch between 16 banks using a wired remote unit.

So for UK cars I could put

0 9929 stock
1 9929 V4 Kili
2 9929 V4 Everest
3 9929 V5 Kili
4 9929 V5 Everest

5 9930 stock
6 9930 V4 Kili
7 9930 V4 Everest
8 9930 V5 Kili
9 9930 V5 Everest

and 10-15 stock or whatever

This way I wouldn't have to distinguish between 9929 and 9930 or Kili and Everest when shipping and if the car developed some problem it could be reverted to a safer map by moving a switch. I've ordered a few adapters that will convert the standard daughter board I use to a switchable configuration.

I spent around £500 on boards last week so don't worry the shop will open again soon. I've logged all the inquiries and I'll get in touch as soon as I'm ready to get things rolling again - be patient. I'll offer V4 in the old format and V5 in the switchable form. There will a difference in price to reflect to extra hardware costs involved with the latter.

Alan,

It might be better to start the 9930 maps at 7, that way the MSB can select 9929/9930 and the lower three bits select the setting. One other thought I had was to put a U/S configuration in the default setting - that way, the car could be disabled by removing the configuration switches as an additional security measure.

Knowing very little about these things, can I ask a stupid question?

Is it possible (or even worthwhile) to have a setting for 'service' mode if there are spare switch positions?

This would save having to mess about with the paperclip in the socket routine when setting the timing etc.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

You can, but that comes from the ALDL connector not the ECU. I've already made one for Ailwyn so ask him to show you at the next BOLLECKS meeting. Before you ask, it's just an ALDL plug (I currently have 25) with a switch between pins A and B.

Without wishing to hijack the thread, Geoff, is it as simple as 'bridging' the right 2 wires to the aldl plug with a length of cable and a 2-way on/off switch?

Just found out that mine isn`t chipped so am thinking of one to get the best out of the car.

However the last owner has told me that

"As regards to a chip i did have one fitted but it caused problems with the forge wastegate, it wouldn't boost properly. With the setup you have i would avoid the chip unless you put a standard wastegate back on. You should be able to wind the boost up for more power with the MBC cos it has a boost cut out over ride (as long as your sensible!) "
