Car started fine , no eml and after letting it warm up i took it for a short run and it boosts as it should
Highly recommend this upgrade if your thinking of it
Thanks to ron for his help

Squirtydog/PerseusJCat...
Everest chip fitted last week. Finally had chance to give the car a good run after going on holidays. I can confirm that this is a great upgrade. The car really has come alive. The noise of just the airflow when on full boost, is quite surprising. I'm assuming it just the intake of air I'm hearing over the exhaust.
Thank you RonR.

One thing I noticed at first was that it took quite a firm push of the accelerator into the floor to get the full boost. Checked the throttle cable and found there was around 8mm of stretch to be taken up. Adjusted and problem solved. Not sure how long I've been driving without full throttle available.

There is usually (what looks like) quite a lot of slack in the cable when it is correctly adjusted...... the best way is to use Elanscan and watch the throttle opening percentage (not with the engine running, otherwise it can get a bit loud!). If full pedal doesn't give 100% throttle, then it needs adjusting - then it is a case of deciding if it is the TPS or the cable that needs the adjustment.....

With the help of a (not always) willing assistant, press the pedal, look at he laptop screen to see what %age opening you have, then have the assistant operate the lever under the bonnet to check it goes further than it's current position, and gives 100% on the screen - if so, adjust the cable to give 100% with the pedal only.....

.... if there is no more movement available at the lever, then it is a different set of things to play with at the throttle body (but that is less usual).

It is a great time to check the TPS position, idle speed etc whilst you are in there.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Thanks. I'll be sure to check when I get access to elanscan. I've made the cable but haven't managed to get elanscan to work yet.
Either way, even with my rather analogue approach, it has made a positive difference. The cable still isn't taut, but before adjusting, there was probably aproaching 20% pedal travel before anything happened. That is now eliminated. Before, you definitely got the sense that an additional push into the carpet was getting more throttle. That sense is now gone.

A quick update on the chip situation....

At the beginning of this adventure I was able to get my hands on a quantity of genuine SST chips from reliable sources before they went obsolete, those are now running low. There are other sources available but the chances of getting genuine chips is small and I won't compromise on quality.

I have 6 Mk 2 type chips left, 4 of which are already spoken for. I also have 8 Mk 1 chips which I was holding for a rainy day, I can use 5 of them in boards, leaving me 3 spares.

After those have gone I'll concentrate on getting the Mk 3 boards sorted, but it may take a while.....

Thanks,
Ron

I've fitted the Everest chip to my elan S2 this weekend, the difference it makes is um... Profound. Quite startled myself the first time I gave the accelerator a good shove.
It seems to be topping out at about 0.75 bar, I'm not sure if that's expected behaviour on an S2 that's still currently running a standard exhaust system or if that implies there's something else going on that I need to investigate. Any advice from the hardened experts appreciated as I'm quite new to both elan ownership and tuning!

Well the graphs suggest a peak target of 0.9 for Everest but just because you only saw .75 doesn't mean its not doing it - could just be the guage! But if it was showing .5 before as standard then that would seem a bit low. It does require a "robust" effort to achieve peak though, not always possible on public roads. Many of us have changed to 2.25 or even 2.5 exhausts - which can help, but then you'll need to port the wastegate (from ~16mm to 20 or 21) to avoid boost creep. IMO 2.25 more throaty - sound good; 2.5 more boomy and too throbby on a longer run. But we all like different things. On an S2 you can invest in a pre-cat eliminator (replaces the filled bucket on the downpipe with an empty chamber) and ditch the Cats for a sports cat. That will make it breath much better, but can give emissions problems when needing an MOT....

Thanks Mike, good to know. It was consistently reading 0.5 before installing the chip, next job is probably to set myself up with Elanscan so I can see what's going on. I did notice that the rpm guage seemed a bit jerky in its travel so maybe there's a sensor somewhere that needs a bit of love, still no warning lights and an impressive performance increase so I'm seeing that as a win so far :D

Yep - these cars are huge fun, especially with some simple upgrades like the Everest.

The tacho shouldn't be jerky...but its not got an obvious (or for me understandable!) method of being driven. RonR would be hugely better qualified to explain it. Something along the lines of a sin wave form output is taken from something(maybe Cam Angle Sensor??) and coverted to a square wave form which is translated by tacho into a needle movement or something similarly bizarre beyond my ken. Hopefully that explanation will attract some ritual humiliation by someone who actally understands how it works - or at least how it should - and set the record straight. Mine is great most of the time but sometimes decides to display real + 1-2k higher for a while which is a bit off putting. Eg displays 6k when doing 4500. Fortunately its rare enough not to worry about too much!

i dont know about sine waves etc..

but what i can say to get started on the "ritual humiliation" is that the reading does not come from the Cam angle. the tacho reading on the SE comes from the ignition control module underneath the coolant reservoir (the one that decides when the sparks happen)

I've got sine waves from my ABS sensor on the RHS driveshaft reluctor..... converted to square waves in a magic box..... but that doesn't help anyone because it isn't for the tacho.

Good news, after a suggestion from a friend who rallies a Mitsubishi Lancer and is much more au fait with turbo engines than I all is now working as it should. The additional boost was blowing out the rather weedy spark being provided by some past their prime spark plugs, disappointing given the full service history, gave it some new HT leads whilst I was at it and we're back in smooth progression on the boost gauge and tacho and some rather alarming acceleration that made the wife swear involuntarily

Hi! I suspect I may be too late, but I thought I should ask. Do you have any ECU add-on boards left for sale? I just purchased an Elan (in the USA) and would be excited to upgrade. Many thanks in advance!
