Low Temperature when driving from a warm start

Postby AJSGSE1990 » Sun 22.02.2026, 11:08

Took my recent purchase for a little drive to start planning out works. Outside temp was about 12 degrees and the car was fully warmed up and sitting just above what looks like 90. Within a few miles of country roads, the temperature dropped to cold, see image. Before I start looking to change the bypass valve I just wanted to check if this is normal for this car design.

Thank you.

AJSGSE1990, there's a lot on LEC that will support your temp gauge pic as being 'normal' when you're up to normal running temperature.

Here's a recent thread that addresses our 'overheating concern stresses'...'ElanScan' gives much better inside info on engine temp. data than this non-linear indicator/'temp gauge':-

I have not yet looked at Elanscan, I have a current project which I am 4 months late on and have missed the season opener test day. Pretty upsetting. Having resolved the cooling issues on two Italian cars I am not too scared! I just need to stop myself from rewiring the engine to a MaxxECU! or worse, Motec.

Cheers,

Andrew.
