However, it sounds like you expected a minter for this price, which you were never likely to get.

Mine was under £5k, so I was expecting to need to spend some time & money caring for it, and have done (& am still doing) exactly that.

Before Richard goes rummaging through the kitchen drawers… When I read his first post I didn’t associate it with a dig against Clemo. Reading Neil’s post, and going back to the beginning, you can see how it might have been better put.

I’m not sure how having a few new bits constitutes a car being restored, or even refurbished. If it was only worth £4-5000 before, it won’t be much different now.

The money Richard’s spent is the cost of not asking in advance if it would be worth it. Not taking advice. Wanting the car to be right, and not doing the work himself.

On other posts, when the value of Elans crop up, nobody ever asks if it’s had a fan-revamp.

A good recent service history should add a little to the value though. Mine did not have a great deal, which is why I assumed it needed attention, so paid what I thought was a reasonable price to reflect this.

So when things started to go wrong, I was not surprised or upset. I was prepared.

Anyway, back to the original topic, I think TB had his work done at Peninsular Garage somewhere in Devon - it does sound like a lot of unecessary work and expense.

If TB had wanted an S2 that didn't require any attention., and with the added bonus of a hard top and shiny bling wheels, I'd have pointed him in the direction of Grahame's car in Kirtlebridge
