Leaking oil cooler

hi guys, Im just wondering if any one knows where I could obtain a oil cooler from,
just had mine serviced and found its leaking, iv been quoted about £600 any one know any other place that is cheaper, many thanks Vince

could just be the washers in the banjo connector thingys.

£500 at either Stoneleigh or Donington for a new cooler last year.

mine was leaking earlier this year about 2 inch diameter wide puddle every day of oil for a few weeks.got quoted 600 + vat for supply and fit of new cooler, but its stopped leaking now. should i ignore it now?

Had mine changed recently. It was weeping very slowly until GST Performance cleaned the engine bay when replacing the head gasket recently. It turned out that the oil cooler was virtually being bandaged by the oil which had weeped out and turned to sludge.

Michael, yours could possibly be 'bandaged' by its own sludge too.

You may only really find the leak by giving the cooler & pipes a good cleaning. You may also find that doing this means you need to change it sooner rather than later.

The good news is that SJ's do a replacement cooler for £165. It is the same size as the genuine Lotus one, but uses slightly different connectors. Gerald was quite used to fitting these though.

Just helped AndyH change his oil cooler last week. Used the SJ sports car one. Surprisingly easy diy job even with the air con pipes in that area.

Toughest bit was getting the wheel arch liner off! The connectors are different in that there's an additional bolt on the 'cooler inlet and outlet orifice but the banjo bolts go straight into this no problem.

We had to get additional 4No. M6 nuts and bolts as the nuts were captive on the old 'cooler mountings.

I'm thinking of getting an Aluminium oil cooler made to replace mine.

Anyone think of a reason not to do this or should I just go down the SJ (£192) route.

why is the oil contaminated that has run through the cooler, or do you have some surface corrosion and think it might leak in the future

It is very possible that it is leaking, but won't know for sure until it's removed.

Just want to know if making an oil cooler in Aluminium is a good idea or not, material wise.

Save your money - the heat transfer rate wouldn't be much different.

Now, the intercooler on the other hand ...

My parts list for HGF is huge already, can't afford more.

Only going to get the oil cooler made if needed. Option are new Lotus one for £500 odd, SJ for £190 or get one made up in Aluminium.

Took the wheel arch liner off to investigate a bolt dimension and found a leaky cooler

Anyone know the thread size for the Banjo bolts? Also the pitch dimension between the 2 connections would come in handy

the banjo bolts will be OK, it is the two washers either side that will be the problem, they have a rubber insert in the metal washer to seal the banjo
diff
