Hi All, OK I've had My Elan SE now for a while but the Wife gets the pleasure of Driving it as I'm blessed with a very Tax Heavy and boring company car.
Anyway, she reported to me last night that for some time (Why do they always leave it too long to tell you?) that the foot wells feel rather warm and also that the engine light comes on every now and then.
I've done the paper clip test and it reports an error 41 "CAS error".
Is this also the reason for the increased temp in the foot wells? Also, where can I go In Leeds / West Yorks area to get the CAS changed (Without breaking the bank)
Any help will be more than welcome.
Cheers Lee

If you click the "Repairs" link above, you'll find the CAS listed under common repairs. There's a write-up there. It looks a pretty easy DIY job. You shouldn't need to feed somebody else's piggy bank on this.

My car had a code 41 fault, which was the Hall Effect Sensor within the CAS. After ordering a new Sensor, and they are only £20 from Lotus Aftersales, I had nothing to lose and decided to try a repair.
The soldered joints within the Hall Sensor seem to be the problem and I carefully cut and peeled back the silicone sealer from the back of the sensor and exposed the contacts. Take it very slowly and it's not difficult. There are no moving parts in the unit, just these soldered connection, which were resoldered. I then resiliconed the back of the sensor.
It all worked Ok for me, and when the Dealer failed to send a replacement Sensor, I had a repair that cost nothing.
It's worth noting that the new type of sensor has different connectors to the wiring that will need modifications. Also, I did mine with the CAS on the car, but having taken it off more recently to replace the O ring seal, this would be much easier way to repair the Hall sensor. Either way you should recheck your base timing.
I have a couple of photos of the repair - just let me know if you need them.

Could you please add them to the wiki write up so we all can share!
Thanks.

I'm struggling with the Wiki, which keep asking for my login even though I'm logged in to the LEC.
I have drafted some text and added a photo of the repair to the Hall Effect Sensor - if it is of any use, please could someone upload it to the Wiki?

[Currently] you need to create yourself an account on the wiki as well as the one here. Give that a go

It'll go to 3/4ish and then the fans should kick in....
Then drop to about 1/2.. Then the cycle begins again...
