I believe on your cars all you would need to do is connect a paperclip into the rightmost bottom two pinouts (the A and B) of the ALDL and turn the car to the run position.
Again, I don't own an Elan though, so take it for what it's worth (maybe I should change my signature to a standard disclaimer!)
