should I change the head bolts?

Postby 22rabbits » Mon 14.11.2016, 16:00

Hi guys, my mechanic asked me to consider getting head bolts for when he's doing the head gasket. he said it might run the risk of breaking on re-tightening but he's leaving it to me to make the call. What do you guys think? and are they going to be easily got in the local motorfactors?

they'll only break if he over tightens them.......and even then it'll take a lot of over tightening.......

you will need to retorque them after every run for the first few runs while the heat and the bolts bed back in......

As above - they are NOT 'stretch' bolts on the elan, and can safely be re-used.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
