NormScan

Postby GeoffSmith » Wed 05.09.2007, 12:51

ESM posted a trial program back in July for all you Norma owners, but it has only been downloaded a couple of time.

Just wondering whether anyone had tried it out and has some logs to share?

Oh, I missed this!

Does it read out tread-wheel RPM and hamster heartbeat rate?

Don't knock it. It's with an advanced optically isolated communication system useful up to 800m.

They ain`t that slow Sy, i regularly follow an SE round some East Sussex `B` roads and although he pulls away from me out of slow corners, he seems to hold me up the rest of the time. Weird but true. I won`t divulge his identity! Maybe i`m just a better driver ? Or maybe with an N/A you can just keep it floored (i do!).

Hi Gary,

No, i am sure the COM port wasn`t an issue. When i first tried ElanScan i borrowed some kit from Geoff that confirmed the interface was talking to the software.

The problem is trying to find the right command to get the N/A ECU to respond - this was what Alan's program was attempting to do. The fact that there was a stack of bad echos implies that it did not.

Um... I was under the impression that because it's a 1 wire setup everything that was sent by the PC was also received by the PC?? Hence the echo.

If this is the case, then it sounds like the requests are not reaching the ECU.

I have asked Lotus if they would consider adding the N/A ECU to the aftersales parts list. I`ll let you know what happens

Hi Clemo,

Yes the old NA is a bit simpler and lighter, but i must be getting old because i actually wanted a SE / S2 final drive to make the car more relaxing on my european jaunts. I suppose i could fit some S2 16 inch wheels to raise the gearing.

Anyway back to topic :!:

I may try http://www.injectioncorrection.co.uk/ , to see if i can get my faulty original ECU repaired. I`ll ask for a quote and let you know how much they want.

See you soon hopefully,

Re: NormScan

Postby GeoffSmith » Thu 08.01.2009, 23:58

Just run NormScan on my ECU emulator and have these words of wisdom:

From the <Setup> menu, hit <Autodetect ALDL frame id>.
A pop up box will prompt you to connect the pc to the ALDL and to turn the ignition on.
Press <OK>
If the Error log box says "Bad echo (sent: F4 56 01 B5 received: XX XX XX XX)" then there is a problem with the interface - usually the lead is not connected properly or the ignition is not turned on (remember immobilisers).
Otherwise, the program takes about one minute to run - the Error log box should fill up with "No reply" messages and may appear to freeze, but don't worry, after a minute you will get a popup box appearing.
If the message is "No valid reply detected" then we are back to square one. :banghead:

However, if the message is "Success: Frameid is XX and the data size is YY" then report back what XX and YY are and we are one step further forward. Press [F1] to start talking then [F2] to log some data. Try moving the accelerator and see if any numbers change. Press [F4] to stop logging and [F3] to stop talking. Select <File> <Save> and give the log file a name - zip up this .ecu file and post it up here.

Geoff, I`ll try it this weekend and let you know the result ASAP. I know my ElanScan interface works - it does the business on my brother in laws SE.
