Indicators acting up. Hazard switch?

Hi everyone. been a while since i last posted, but hope people have been keeping safe as we now seem to be coming out of the covid situation.

My elan has failed its MOT, - horn stopped working and all indicators come on when i indicate left or right.

I can fix the horn because the 15A fuse has blown. However with the indicators:

1. i have fiddled with the hazard switch and now the hazards work correctly and the indicator light on the dash board does not come on (i believe this is the correct way).

2. the problem is when i indicate left or right, the light is on on the dashboard and the relevant lights flash on and off normally but the opposite side indicators also come on, however they are fainter and don't flash at the same rate as the normal side operation (they are a bit slower).

is this fault still to do with the hazard switch? or is the indicator relay duff? or is it something else?

any help is appreciated. cheers.

I'm having the same problem with my indicators and hazard switch too.

Happened a month after the MOT and I'm struggling to find a replacement.

I suspect the MOT station dismantled the switch to effect a temporary repair which has since failed again. The front of the switch has become detached.

Why?, when they could just fail it and charge to repair and retest it.....

Exactly. An MOT station worth it's salt won't do temporary repairs like that just to fudge an MOT. Those days are long gone

well, i've fitted a new 15a fuse for the horn tonight, and thehorn is ok, but bizzarley the indicators and the hazard switch all function correctly now. tested everything three times, and all ok. wonder if the blown fuse was causing some sort of current leak or drain to the indicators / hazard circuit?

oh well, will check again tomorrow and re-book mot.

Hooray. She passed the MOT.

after looking at the circuit diagrams again, the only common point i could see was the indicators / hazard switch, and horn are also connected to the alarm. i found that the battery in my alarm keyfob was low (almost flat), and i am wondering if this affected the alarm causing the horn fuse to blow.

fitted a new battery and all is ok.

Summer, here we come.
