My Elans always been harder to start warm than cold or hot, starts on the button when hot or cold but when warm can take a few seconds of turning over. Is this normal or if not what should i look at ?
Thanks

Yeah, we've done this one before with an inconclusive outcome.
Whether it's normal is open to debate, but it's certainly common.

I have the same problem. It's a bit embarrassing sometimes. I had some hope that new coils would help, but I've now replaced the coils, leads, and plugs, and I don't see a change (at least not where the starting is concerned).

not that Elans get any true vapor lock, but are we allowing the fuel pump to fully pressurize before starting in these instances? if not try it and see if it helps

I get the same. I even took the car to the rolling road to see if they could identify the problem, they told me that the Coolant Temp Sensor was the problem. I changed this and still have the same problem.
The car starts on the button when its cold and hot and is a real pig when warm. When it does start its very rich and smells of petrol. About the only thing I have not tried is new coils.
May car can take 10 - 20 seconds of cranking before it starts. It does start all the time (touch wood) but does take ages to finally fire.
I also let the fuel pump prime.
Thanks
Mark

Mark, same exact thing with mine. I just replaced the plugs, leads, and coils, and got no improvement....maybe a bit better performance, but no improvement in the starting problem.

I feel blessed now as it's only 4 or 5 seconds of turning over on warm with mine !

I also get this - starts on the button when cold and hot but takes 4-5 seconds of cranking when warm - but not all the time

I've heard of quite a few others with the same problems over the years.
However, in the 5 years of ownership it has never failed to start (apart from when my alternator packed in) so doesn't really bother me.

I have this problem with a 4 Elans. My immediate guess was the ECU not mixing the fuel so well for a warm start.

I do not have that problem, however when I had a diagnosis at Symbolic in CA a few years ago they said that an injector was weaping and that could cause hot start problems.
