Removing Ashtray

Postby frog » Sat 06.05.2006, 15:49

Is there an easy way to remove the ashtray back? I can't see how to prise it out. Do I really have to take the dashboard out?!

I'm interested in fitting a GPS unit, with a surround so that the ashtray goes completely, but I have the touchscreen GPS in its place. I plan to cut an aluminium section out and attach the GPS unit to it to make it all tidy.

Hi

The surround is sometimes "glued in". You could try a Hot air gun to see
it will melt the glue. mind you dont melt the surround. Better try a " hairdryer" first.

Hi,

Thanks - so the metal surround has no clips or anything holding it on! I'll give it a go, but 15 years of glue setting sounds tricky to remove...

surround

Hi

On some car the surround would pull out with the ashtray. Previous owner may have glued the surround. Do not think it is metal though the part can be purchased as a seperate item part number a100V6015F.

Sorry about resurrecting an old post, but did you get the ashtray out in the end? Was it just glued in?

Just for future reference for anyone searching for the answer in the future, the back of the ash tray is indeed held in with glue and a hairdryer does melt the glue and allow you to take it out.

Ok, but as I said in my previous post, mine was glued in and came out with the use of a hairdryer to melt the glue.
