As my first post I should say, what a great forum! I've been browsing here for a few weeks reading up and have plenty more reading to do. I purchased my first Elan on Sunday
On closer inspection today, I have found that the hub carrier where the caliper was attached had snapped off at the bottom (see photo) and another thing (sorry I'm not sure on the name of it yet) had popped out. Caliper looks like it needs an overhaul. Got the feeling this is going to be pricey, however the previous owner is willing to help out with the repair as she was devastated when I called her. I'm going to check the other side at the weekend (as the car is parked at a friends and I'm away with work).
Pics are here (I shall try figure out how to embed them properly) https://plus.google.com/photos/101625827898012052390/albums/6046453440037943649?authkey=CPnbp96mkcmItQE
Unfortunately my local lotus specialist is fully booked. I have another number to call but are just trying to work out what is needed first before booking it in somewhere else.
For now I'm thinking my list is:
O/S hub carrier (£100 on ebay)
Pads
Bushes (thinking I may as well do this)
Braided hoses (as the system will need bleeding)
Top and bottom ball joints
The other shiny thing that has popped out
refurbed calipers/or a kit
Brake fitting kit
I've got plenty of searching to do on here, so shall do that first. However any gotchas/advise given will be greatly appreciated also.
Apart from the above. Wow what a car! I can't wait to get it fixed and get back in it.
Thanks in advance.
Wayne
