Jonathan, you won't need to do more research that paint chip is wrong, which isn't unusual for lotus BRG. That looks like the 60s BRG L01 but order L01 and you get an almost lime green then you discover that Lotus had four versions of BRG in the 60s - been there!

Car paint colour is a black art, even if they did have the right formula, chances are it would be remixed as the original pigments won't be available. Add to that a modern base from a different manufacturer and your 30 year old paint and the two won't match exactly.
Are they doing some work or just mixing paint?

In essence you should ask them to match what is on the car. But you also need to know if you want a clear coat and if for the bumper flex additive... 2 pack, water based or cellulose?!

yeah...everything Simon_P said, as evidenced by the armchair sleuthing I did try before he wrote that ;)

The part that stood out to me was the fact that it calls it "New BRG". That opened a rabbit hole of divergence on the web calling it "Lotus New Racing Green (LNRG)" as well just BRG. And I don't know if it would make that much of a difference, but two sources had different primer shade values called out: 5 vs 7. But in the end, it seems like there is an acceptable variance for any color and that the color chip guides are just to get the painter in the ball park, but then they finish the tinting by eye (or machine). So maybe the true BRG is just...whatever works with the rest of your car :-D :smt016 :smt106 . Good luck with getting the match you want

Like Geoff, I have seen your car and never thought it looked anything other than 'standard' Lotus BRG....

[Internet’s been down all day in our neck of the woods, so only just seen the replies]

Thanks all. That’s what I suspected. I’m going to see the coachworks on Monday (assuming I’m still allowed to) and I’ll take it from there. But it’s reassuring to know that I’m not imagining things ;-)

Dapinky, being pedantic that would be Imperial Green rather than Lotus ErrmPinky Green which has a bluish undertone and looks black.

Simon,

I take your 'pedantic', and raise you a 'didactic' :D

... Imperial Green is a Vauxhall/Opel colour with a paint code of GM355....

.... When Lotus wanted to use the same colour on it's other models, they weren't allowed to use the name "Imperial green", as GM claimed it was their colour...

... as such, they called it "Empire Green" in the brochures, but it retains the paint code GM355...

The only difference known is that Vauxhall used a grey primer, whilst Lotus used a beige one - but the actual 'darkness' of the final colour is dependent on the thickness of the paint film (mine had 3 coats, but I would have preferred another one on top to make it a tad darker..... will get it done one day)
