A piller seal tidying

Postby mikeydude » Wed 06.08.2008, 14:33

As mentioned in the past, I have been messing about with the idea of tidying the a piller seals...This is the result if anyone is interesed?
side window now slots into the rubber. It works well
It uses two pieces of rubber extrusion that is readily available and cheap. And is a much better looking solution to sikaflex or silicone

Your ingenuity is to be applauded - well done.

There is some way to go to perfect it as yet (in other words I am still messing with it) and I still want to see how strong the rubber is and how well it stands upto UV etc...not an easy test to do in the UK, perhaps I should take the elan to a sunbed centre!!

I am also putting together a remote fob that operates the windows from outside the car, this is so the window can be dropped and then lifted inside the rubber for a perfect weatherproof seal

One of the problems is all cars are slighly different so the mod will have to be applied carefully on an individual car basis.

I will do a write up when it's all done.

If people wanted I could put together a kit of the bits to make things easier.

Mike Dude,

Do you get any problems opening the door with the window up?

I just recently read somebody's posts (maybe Phil or Blair?) where they said they either were working on, or had installed, one of those bits that makes the windows automatically drop slightly when you open or close the door. You might try finding that, or maybe somebody else can chime in with more info on it for you. That would be better than manually doing it with a remote, eh?

Yes that would be good....ooohhhh just like a proper convertable....I was looking at that ldea but did not want to mess about too much inside the doors, this way I just have to put a readily availalbe remote reciever under the centre console and attach it to the switches.
