Head gasket differences - N/A vs Turbo

Postby dapinky » Thu 04.01.2007, 16:38

Hi does anyone know the difference?

As far as the head gasket goes, the part number is different on the N/A & Turbo (6103S & 6104S respectively), but that info is only from the parts manual and I don't know what the actual difference is, or whether it will work with the turbo motor (I presume that it'll probably fit, but I don't know how it will function!).

The reason for asking is that there are some N/A ones in the lotus parts sale, but not Turbo ones.

At £2 a throw is it worth a punt, or money down the drain?

Will it work at all, or just not for very long?

How about limited boost?

I don't want to buy something which aint any good at all, or to spend hours changing/fitting something which won't work, but to maybe keep as an emergency 'spare' could it be worthwhile??

Answers on a postcard please :D

Dave

All I was going to offer that the compression ratio on the NA is higher, IIRC.

Alternatively, perhaps Lotus gave it a different part number so that when it was included in a head (gasket) set you could differentiate between an NA set (and its contents) vs a turbo set and its specific contents.

Thinking out loud, here.

Bottom line is that I don't really know... :(

What you need is the thickness of them new as probably the rest is the same.
The Natasp has a higher compression ratio but this is normally done with the pistons crown heights.

I do hope you got it from Clemo, and didn't pay top dollar from anywhere else.....

.... I bought up the stock from aftersales 2 years ago, and by the time the 'ordered' ones had gone, the spare couple went down to Torquay for LEC storage
