hello all.

does anybody know if the elanscan software will work on
windows ce.

any help much appreciated.

Easiest way is to try it Des...... Go to ESM's website, download it and try. It works with W95 if you've got the latest common dialog DLL installed (see bottom of page) so CE should be OK. Note, you don't have to be connected to the car to try it out.

i know its the obvious thing to do, have elanscan on my desktop to tinker and learn. but i am loking at buying patticular lappy device which uses
windows ce but not in my posession yet hence question. from what i can gather win ce is bassically the same as win 95. even though my desktop running xp i have looked and as far as i can tell elanscan doesnt interact with windows all that much from an instalation piont of view. i understand that interfacing may be a differant issue though.
unless someone can tell me diffinately i think i may take the plunge and buy said lappy.
i will offcause share any findings i may have.

As I said, the only issue seems to be with one of the W95 DLL's but that is fixable by an upgrade. A laptop of that vintage should have a serial port, so interfacing to the car should be OK if you've got a serial interface cable. At the end of the day, if there is a problem then ESM will probably be able to fix it (although not necessarily overnight).

this lappy does indeed have an Serial (RS232C): 1 9-pin (115 Kbps)
aswell as having a usb connection. " even though i have yet to obtain either of thw two " that will be another quest", i can easily aquire usb option as interface supplier not far from where i live. if i use serial port i am afraid i will be looking for further advise !

i am only looking at buying this device as it is a very small unit about the size of a vhs tape. it doesnt have huge memory or large hdd but should surfice for job intended. i can then offcuase upload elanscan files to my desktop for easier examination i presume.

You might want to read this thread. I'm afraid I haven't got any serials built up and the USB's aren't fully developed yet. I'm actually working on them at the minute and I've had two scope probes die on me so there will be another short delay!

i had indeed saw your post before but presumed any stocks of said serial
connectors would have been long gone and probably a fair que for future
stocks.

i had looked at the elanscan site and saw that he was not open for business at pressant, but followed his link to the easy homebuild usb solution using " active robotics " serial interface card. they are not far from where i live and said card only being £19. and in stock !! i am not afraid on soldering iron so this option not daunting to me.

however saying that, if a serial cable would be the best solution for my needs i would gladly wait for your stocks and equipment to improve so i may purchase from you.

I've just had a thought - do you plan to run around with your laptop merrily logging away all day? If so, you could do me a favour and do a soak test on a pre-production USB interface. If you're happy with it, you could have it at a favourable price. Let me know if you're interested.

dont drive around all day but was planing on installing said lappy permanently into car. ( i have an old fashined neatness thing going on )
but would deffinatley do some extensive testing for you. another good reason to go for a drive !!

Before you shell out any cash for it, I'd make sure Elanscan will run on CE, my belief is that it won't, however it would be good to know for certain.

It looks like the version of ElanScan on ESM's website will not run directly on WINCE.

There is, however, a free, open source WINCE compatible compiler that should be fully compatible with the ES Delphi source code. In other words, there should be a cheap technical solution to the problem, but please bear in mind that Alan has other more important issues to deal with at the moment.
