I can do it in a matter of minutes. I have posted the hints before. It is simple once you know where the nuts are on the ECU -- you just open the driver's door, sit on the ground outside the car next to the drivers door sill inside the open door, you reach your right hand up into the driver's footwell and your hand will go right to the ECU, you drop your 10mm nut driver on the nuts and remove them and then pull the ECU . . .

!! Sha-Zam !! (no broken back, no neck pain, and can even be done in the dark!!)

Hi Mike. Good to hear from you! I hear you on getting time for the car...but at least you've made some progress. You're going to love the Kumhos. Throw them on sometime and go for a run around your area - you'll never want to go back to street tires.

Thanks, Doug- then I'll take you off the full of it list! I read your notes before hand, and they were helpful, particularly sitting on the floor as I would have tried it some other way. One thing not emphasized enough was making sure enough pressure is exerted to "snap" home the adaptor into the board and the board back into the case, once turned sideways.

And yes-I am way up on the ECU take-out/put-back learning curve now and the next one would be a snap, no doubt. It's like putting together a trampoline Cristmas Eve for the kids- the first one is a b...h. But how many more trampolines will I do? Maybe I should advertise my skills to the neighbors for next Christmas.

By the way the FWD thread on Elisetalk really got under my skin- having been around several Elise owners I am not suprised by the overall attitude of most. One who I know posted that he "was sorry to inform (me) but the Elan is a "sporty car", not a sports car" (or to that effect). What a petty display of ignorance and disrespect for Lotus models other than his own. It's like I own a Mustang and the Camaro people are taking cheap shots.

Too bad the Elise gang did not have to suffer the self righteous attitude of "traditional" Lotus owners who panned the Elan because it had a Japanese powerplant. Where are those people now? Maybe they were jealous because it would outperform anything else Lotus made at the time. Or maybe they own an Elise?

For what it's worth, another friend who owns both an Elan and Elise says the Elan wins hands down in all areas.

This is one of the key reasons I am so ticked not to have been at more track days recently. Elise owners who have their nose high in the air, then get it smacked by a little white Elan.

Then again, most of them are in the beginner group, so I usually don't get to run in with them...
