roger ,
i guess that "lotus" no longer require walker to make the rubbers then as when i spoke with them last thats where the drawings and info were coming from?

Hi Clemo,
I've only had emails from a lady called Glynes at present. If nothing comes of it i will telephone earley next week.
It's just a pity we can't get hold of the profiled drawings. I could probably make them myself with them!

Walker Rubber are doing the seals as Clemo rightly thought!
I spoke with them today and samples have already been sent to Lotus for aproval.Apparantly Walker already do alot of work for Lotus,i suppose being located in Norwich makes sense.
As soon as production starts and the first banch of seals get sent out, Glenys from Walkers will contact me.
I think this won't be long into the new year!
As for prices she didn't know.

I wonder who did the first samples (another possible supplier for the future, if they get it right?)

Just got off the phone to Hethel - The initial samples were crap. Another pair are due there this week and will be fitted to a Milton Keynes-based car. If all's well (and they have 50+ back orders), they'll be available later in the summer.

I think it looks more hopeful this time as Walker already supply quite alot of seals etc for Lotus.
I hope the pricing comes down, but that depends on type of tooling used by Walker. For smaller runs they could be manually produced instead of machine set up.
Perhaps this way Lotus would be more inclined to stock them.

I'll be very surprised if the photo will suffice - no offence meant guys, what you're doing is worth a go.

thats probably me then.......running acad 2007 at the moment

I'm a bit confused here, it seems that Walkers are making these seals for Lotus anyway, so i can't see as they would want to make them independantly, or it could ruin there relationship & future work prospects , am i missing something here or what ?.

Paul,
Yes you are right,Walker would lose their relationship with Lotus by supplying them independantly. That's why they are not going to!
They are waiting for the samples sent to Lotus to be passed and then if successful Glynes from Walker will let me know when the first batch is sent out.
I just hope it's just after this Christmas!

No Paul,
But thanks for the offer.
We'll just have to wait and see what comes of Walker's samples!
My seals aren't too bad,but it would look better for new ones.

I didn't ask if they were buying the original tooling or starting again from fresh!
I would of thought from fresh as the previous suppliers wanted a ridiculous amount of £sssss for the original tooling.

Just to bring this back up to the top and "wet" (geoffsmith - I know it's spelt wrong, you cynical bugger, it's called humour  ) your appetites:-

Whilst waiting in one of many queues at the parts sale, i hapened to get into conversation with the bloke who is in overall charge of 'Aftersales'.

He informed us that Lotus have taken delivery of some 'trial' parts, which have been fitted to Elans near to the factory, with seemingly acceptable results!

If the trial is a sucess (no time scale given :( ) then there should be no reason why these seals will not be available soon
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
