I did have a very cheap one available a while back Jamie, but PaulP aka clownfeet stole it from me a while back.

Once the rebuilds complete you do know the upgrades then start don't you?

Been rubbing down the shell all week :smt078
Just remembered why I left the motor trade

Anyway one point I must make about the sill members

RUST

Have you checked yours :smt103

Noticed on new shell very poor primer adhesion and tiny rust spiders developing under paint.
Also noticed the old shell was developing same but much worse
This part is not interchangable like the Elan +2
May be worth investigating next time your carpets are out !

I stripped mine back to bare metal and coated with 1K primer which I will remove once I come to prime the shell in 2K in the next couple of weeks.

Jim,

That is looking incredible - you may end up with a string of Elans parked up your drive waiting if you keep posting progress pics! :P

Speaking of which, watch out for your upload limit.
It may not be an issue - I'm no expert. But you might be better off resizing your pics to a maximum pixel size of 640 x 480 before posting them.
They'll display on screen without having to be clicked on, and will be much smaller file sizes so you'll be able to post 3 times more of them before running out of your personal webspace.

I'm interested in hearing more about your motor trade skills - are you a bodywork specialist, or more of a spanner monkey? And will you be doing all the spraying yourself?

Im no longer in the motor trade now, gave it up ten months ago after nineteen years - panel beater / painter to trade, Just sick of repairing everyone elses car. Motor trade now is in a bad way because of the insurance companies cutting everything to the bone, bodyshops up and down the country are closing down. Insurance companies pay garages very little (e.g. £26 p.h.) and the job times are pathetic, this coupled with high overheads doesn't make for good finances. But now Im starting to regain an interest in cars again.

While all you guys were busy at Donington, I had a great time this weekend - lying on my back for a total of 26 hours in the garage washing off the underseal on my new shell with cloths soaked in thinners. I have to say I feel physically sick now with all the fumes. If I never see cellulose thinners again it wouldn't be a bad thing !

All in all I would say I had a crap weekend

Um, don't wish to rub it in but I'm late for the last day at Donington - better get off.

Too much weight in scructure, shell would end up damaging whichever side I laid it on. Damage might not be immediatly apparent then maybe 6 months down the line with a pile of gel cracks to deal with :smt010
