Drive-on type ramps

Has anyone bought a set of 'off-the-shelf' type drive-on ramps for your Elan?

Do they work ok? Or does the front spoiler hit into them?

Has anyone manufactured their own? If so, what pitch did you use so the front spoiler would clear them ok?

I`ve used Dico`s Ramps(once) which are from Halfords but had to make an addition to beable to get the M100 up

Was this arrangement ok for clearance?

If it was, I can use the pic to draw up a design on cad for fabrication.

That was over a year ago but IIRC the clearance was fine and don`t forget pinky has been lowered :-D

Are you planning on getting ramps fabricated?

Might be worth considering whole car ramps if the cost is not prohibitive.

That is a proper job! However, I'll need something that I can just store away easily when not in use. I dont have the room to leave it out permanently.

Paul,

If you made them a bit longer at the front so the C of G went past the apex, you wouldn't even need a jack!

:-D If it was longer than the car, I'd have to knock the end wall out of my garage to get the ramp in! Be more like a carport then!

To gain further unrestricted access to the underside of the car you can remove the lead up units.

Would probably be not to difficult to put together an item that "uses some of the concepts of this design but is inherently totaly different in it construction"

I like the idea of removable ramps - both for storage of the items when not in use, and access when in use.

This one looks to have all the strength of a warm Kit-Kat and i would rather see it a bit more solid if i was driving up it, or lying under it!

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Why not buy yourself a good spade for £10 and start digging yourself a nice deep trench? Much easier than all that metal bashing.

Order the Ramp Extension Kit, as they'll work with any existing ramp set you have.

I've used the simple plastic ramps. They only give 5 or 6 inches of lift however they are cheap, easy to store and strong.

5 or 6 inches is plenty though. More than enough to get under with a drain tub for an oil change.

Maybe for you slim, but the typical Elan owner needs a size XXXXXXXL T-shirt.
