my first thought was a tree did it, but I don't see such broken or scarred tree in the picture?? no blood on the airbags is a good sign. Is it really an auction or are they just posting the pics?

It might interest some to know that helmet use on motorbikes in the USA is a state by state decision. In Georgia it's mandatory, in Florida not (although you are required to carry an additional $10k in PIP coverage if you ride without it... not enough to put your head back together). It makes sense in places like Key West; which is hot & very congested. Many people rent scooters there that are limited to the island, and it makes great sense as you can actually PARK... however they will shove a helmet in your gut & never tell you you'll look like the ultimate dork if you wear it (really, it's VERY uncool, so don't do it). ASMOF even before the helmet law was rescinded in Florida no one ever wore them in Monroe county, with the tacit approval of the state/local police... which is something on the order of 140-miles of highway (US1).
