Can't exceed 4000rpm code 43

Postby davidh » Tue 20.03.2007, 03:05

Still suffering from the same problem. Paul's car will not exceed 4000rpm and the engine check light indicates a fault code, #43 the knock sensor. We have replaced the sensor and fitted new ignition coils, replaced the CAS (twice) and fitted new plugs. Now we have run out of ideas and the local lotus dealer is also puzzled. Does anyone have any suggestions? :(

Have you checked the base timing?

I remember reading here before (ages so and my brains not that good so ignore this if its tosh) that you can get a knock sensor error because the car is knocking so highly that it's out of range and reports as a sensor error.

Have you looked in the Electrical Manual EMK4 at the Code 43 diagnosis flowchart....some things to try there.

Thanks I have gone through the diagnostic in the electrical manual for code 43. But I will check the base timing this weekend to see whether it is within range. It doesn't sound as if it is knocking and it runs really well up to 4000rpm.
