I have attempted to print one of the manuals as it is somewhat difficult to read on the screen and of course can be taken to the site of the car for reference, but it won't print. After giving the print command, it keeps saying that it's flattering, goes up to about 50% and then tells me that the document can't be printed. Can anyone help?

Not sure what it means by flattering?!?!?!

I have also had problems with printing the manuals but what I found was the COPYRIGHT text oblitereated the writing underneath so I was not able to print a clear copy. Sure I remeber I previous discussion about this but I cannot find it anywhere. I guess this is the idea of the text but would be nice to get round it.

Very difficult to read. I found that if I print just a few pages at a time they will print. Seems to be a downloading problem. Yes, the error box actually says flattering. Must be a Brit word for ????.

I'm sure I've seen this message before, but always thought it said "flattening". It may be that your version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is out of date. You could try checking/downloading the latest free version.

Try the free alternative "foxit reader" its a LOT quicker than Adobe PDF and seems to be a lot better.

Just wanted to say that I'm using Acrobat 7.0.8 and I've not had any problems with printing the stuff off.

Admitedly, I've not tried the whole doccument, but it coped quite happily with the 70 odd page engine section of the workshop manual.

This is for personal use only, and I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 full version.

I think that the intention is that you CAN'T remove the watermark.

I too have had this problem. The intention of putting a watermark on the pdf might have been to stop someone copying the manual and selling CDs on eBay but the effect is that the red "COPYRIGHT" is transparent on the screen but obliterates the text in a big rectangle all round it when printed.
Could the person who put the manuals on the site please comment and (hopefully) tell us how to remove the copyright overprint?

The person was me.

Not only did I add the watermark but, with the odd exception, I scanned all the documents too.

You can't remove the watermark unless you have and are well versed with the use of Adobe Acrobat (not Reader).

I will admit though with hindsight, I would have made them somewhat less intrusive. Although your particular symptoms when printing are not typical - I can print them and the watermark remains transparent.

I tell you what, if someone wants to spend their time scanning the manuals, or has .pdf manuals without the watermark, or wants to go and buy them off the tossers on eBay; they can send them to me and I'll upload them. I have a searchable parts manual and a few other bits to upload sometime anyway.

I'm in the process of trying to share my watermarkless manuals with a headgasket failure victim as the moment. Unfortunately the file sizes are too big for me to email (even after zipping or dividing the manuals into parts).

I'd be happy to send them back to you in smaller files, but I need a bit of tuition, and I'm just about to go away until late Sunday.

Could I contact you to go through it when I get back?

Thanks for all your hard work, I wasn't carping. This website has saved me hundreds of pounds already and it is all down to selfless individuals like you. I will report back if I can find a way to print better.

Sy, whats your upload speed like? it may be quicker if you wish to send a CD on to me and I can upload with works 10mb fibre connection. Also wont tie your internet up for hours upon end.

Thanks, helpful for me as i also get the copyright print obscuring the rest of the words.

Totally understand the want to copyright them though and rather not increase the bank balance of the e-bay scammers.
