Hood mechanism, Help needed.

Postby wezzer » Wed 04.04.2007, 15:54

Hi All

Just bought my first M100 and the car I have bought has a hood that doesn't close at the back. It looks like the mechanism as been reassembled incorrectly at the back. Any idea where i can get a diagram of what is is supposed to look like when the hood is up?

My hood doesn't fold away, it folds together but doesn't do the last bit so it doesent act on the Bpost hinge. I think/ am sure it needs re building. Maybe we have the same problem?

Have the adjuster bolts been left in when it was fitted?

I just refitted my hood, and noticed that while the adjuster bolts are in, it won't fold away exactly like you describe...

hood headache

Postby wezzer » Fri 20.04.2007, 11:13

My hood will stow away but when I need it up it will not seal at the back, where the hood sits on the stowage lid. I'll take pictures and then post on the forum.

If you disconnect the front bolt holding the rods and your hood sits nicely on the deck then these rods have probably been bent at some point.

I have the same problem with the hood on my new elan
there is a gap at the back where it isnt resting down on the boot fully there's a gap

i think we really need to see a diagram of the mechanism

i think maybe the arm at the very back has been put on upside down
is the very back arm supposed to be straight because mine isnt it is a V at the furthest joint...
whereas if the arm were switched upside down then it may force the arm to be straight

?
if anyone can post a picture of the rear arm i much apreciate thnx

my roof has gone the other way, when I lock the roof closed it is very tight to the rear roof storage lid that it has scratched the paintwork, so it would seem theres an adjustment required...

Most M100's I have seen with original paintwork have suffered from dimples in the paint/gell coat, but useually not scratched.
Some rubbing is to be expected but not scratching. Maybe there is a problem with your rubber seal or perhaps some abrasive dirt. I'd have a look and give it a good clean.
