Tonight involved more stripping - surprise surprise :smt107

Changed over the tubular brace between the A pillars, the one on the new shell was used and had a kink in it beside the steering column bracket from previous accident damage. Was a bit worried because when I removed it from old shell the windscreen frame was moving even though the third bolt was left tight, fortunately I had no problems like that with the new shell.

Put the foil on the bulkhead for the radio supression, at least I assume thats why its there.

This foil is readily available! Part No: A100BACOFOIL

Also available from TESCO'S, the cheapest part for the car yet and I have lots left over

Ive now taken the bull by the horns and started stripping the wiring from the car. Soon be time to start building up the new shell :smt023

Ive taken the fitting up of the shell as far as I can without mating shell up with chassis. Sprayed the sills, pillars etc with dinitrol.

Old shell has been removed from old chassis, chassis is pretty clean and the damage isn't that bad :?

The old shell has been cut up for bits so I guess there's no going back now

I pressed the new bushes into the rear wishbones, the outers are a bit of a sh#t but its done now.

Spent this morning spraying chassis, longerons etc with dinitrol (on the inside) will do the outside once the suspension is on but before the shell goes on to it.

Tonight was spent shimming up the longerons, will be a few hours at that yet

Its been a busy week and nothing much to show for it - at least until now!
Ive been pressing in bushes, making brake pipes, tapping out threads on galvanized parts, ordering parts, tapping out threads on chassis, ordering more parts   , burning out bushes on track control arms and triangluation arms, ordering even more parts,   coated chassis hard to get at areas with dinitrol, built up new front and rear struts, dragged chassis out of the garage and placed it under shell and jacked it up hey presto - it fits! :D Started building up O/S/R suspension tonight, can't do N/S until fuel tank is in, at least I hope it goes in
with chassis in place :? Also have to do a 50mile round trip tomorrow to obtain O-rings for the fuel filter - silly boy! :bonk:
I was going to build up suspension before I put body and chassis together but decided to keep it light so it could be lifted to the underside of the shell, don't really want to lift the shell any more than I have to (and not on a push bike) would just be asking for trouble :!:
Hopefully get more done in the next couple of days :smt039

If Im going to possibly go down the concourse route  it would be deviating from the origional spec, trying to keep the car as factory original as possible by using genuine lotus parts. :smt120

Black se re-shell

Postby algirdas » Thu 03.05.2007, 02:26

Dear Jim:

What did you use for fabricating hard brakelines? From the picture, they look like copper tubing. I can't speak for the rules in the UK, but here in the states we are told that copper tubing is not suitable for brakelines. I realize that there were cars in the olden days that used copper tubing in brakelines, but I suspect that they were not generating anywhere the line pressures that modern day cars are generating.

I bought a set of those adjustable top links from Paul Matty the other day and they told me that the short end goes on the inboard side though, for the life of me, I see no reason that they cannot be installed the way you have them.

Project is looking good. Real, real good. Congratulations.

Sincerely,

Algirdas
