Hi guys, more problems..
been seeing some puddles of coolant on the ground under my car so I got it up on stands to have a look and see if I could see where it's leaking from.
looks very much like it's leaking out of the place where the metal radiator bypass pipe goes into the water pump:
Anyone know what the seal is like between these bits, and how much of an effort is going to be involved in pulling this apart and sorting it ?
Cheers,
Al.

I know exactly what this bit is like as I've just taken it apart. The joint is sealed by a O-ring which simply fits into a grove on the pipe and then pushes into the main housing...
My access is excellent as I have the head off at the moment, the bypass pipe is held in place by a single bolt on the other side of the turbo (you need to remove this to get this pipe out.
If you like I'll try and take some pics tomorrow.

Hello Al,
Mine was leaking like that as well, i changed the metal bypass pipe with the o ring as it was a bit corroded. The job`s a bit awkward but it stopped the leak immediately.

Nice one, thanks guys !
Don't suppose you know the dia of the o-ring, so I can try to get one in stock before I take it apart rather than running around afterwards trying to get a match ?
cheers!

I also have the same leak I think.
Does it leak just when the engine is cold after many hours parking, or all the time?

Yours looks like 19.8mm ID and 2.4mm thick - how much did you pay for the Lotus plastic bag Mark?
I just bought a
box of 400 O rings for £10.

Certainly leaks when the engine's on, you can watch the drips forming at place where the bypass pipe enters, I think it continues to leak at a slower rate once the engine's off.

Just a dozen or so in that size. For you Al, you can have them at cost : 2½p each and in true eBay style, £9.99 P&P.
Al, it's probably worth trying a motor factor (NOT Halfrauds) as I got a range of sizes for my PAS at ~25p each.

Geoff a bargin for a Lotus original part...£98p...can't think I've ever paid that little for an original part before from a dealer, maybe there's competition here, "What's the cheapest Lotus original part you've bought?"
Ah, but it is a lovely shade of brown and not the horrible black ones!!

wow..
I just got off the phone ordering clips and rings for pennies a piece, and I thought I'd check how much the bypass pipe (A100E6338S) costs since it looked a little corroded (ok, not nice and shiny at least), and I figured a piece of pipe 50cm long couldn't be too expensive, right ? ...
... oh boy, did I get that one wrong : £210
you know, actually I quite like the corroded look now that I think about it

I have the same leak , is it possible to access the bolt holding the pipe in place without removing the turbo?

Definitely, I certainly didn't take the turbo off to sort mine, but ISTR that you need an extension on your socket wrench to get to it...
I do recall it being a bit of a pain to get off, but some patience and a can of penetrating oil with the straw in the spray-top is your friend.

Sounds to me like the sort of thing that could be fabricated for a group buy. 270GBP sounds a little steep, even for Lotus. I'm pretty sure I also have this problem.
