experience with "stage 3" 6-puck clutch kit

For Elan M100, does it make sense to install a "stage 3" 6-puck clutch?

Please advise.

This is a good question and it really depends on how far you intend to go with your car in terms of power. I put one in when I put an aluminium flywheel in. Many people found they took a few hundred miles to bed in, before which time they were juddery. The feel is also more aggressive.

In terms of necessity, IIRC, you don't need to fit one unless you are planning to go beyond the big exhaust/Mountain chip route. I did anyway despite my car being almost stock simply because I had the engine apart.

I'm hoping someone will come along and post the power figures that have been bounded around before!

I replaced my clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel after a turbo upgrade years ago and originally went with a 4-puck unit. Great holding power, but not the smoothest thing for daily driving. I am now using a 6-puck disc which is smoother than the 4, but still not a stock "feel" by any means. It takes some getting used to, but *can* be driven smoothly. It has a very "on" or "off" feeling, though.

That said, I agree with Candles and would not upgrade unless you are considering a major increase in power (I am running in the 300+ HP range). The daily driving tradeoff may not be worth it. IMO, if you want a little more holding power and have things apart, go with a heavier duty pressure plate (for more holding power), and a stock clutch disc (for better driveability).
