Lotus Elan Central

Have you any advice on choosing a set of Torx sockets to suit the Elan? Have you found a need to go up to size 50? From experience would you suggest 1/4 “or 3/8 drive, and is there one that’s never in a set that you always need?

Interesting question - to be honest I can't think on ANY torx screw heads on the Elan. There's shed loads on SWMBO's Fiesta, though ...

3/8" size is good all round but for those hard to get at places a 1/4" is sometimes a lot better.

LOL! I was thinking the same, racking my brain to remember any Torx....

They're not even used much on the later Lotus cars

If this is what you mean by Torx, I've never seen any screws which would need one of these anywhere on the car.

The only places an unusual socket is needed are the brakes (Allen sockets 10 & 8 mm) and the bolt for the timing belt tensioner which is some sort of pastry-cutter-looking thing.

Thanks for the replies, while contemplating adjusting the passenger door locking plate I noticed they were Torx screws and likewise another 3 on the lock itself – I assumed they might be scattered all over the car but from what you have said these may be the only 10 to bother about. Another £14.99 saved.

Well, bugger me with a toasting fork! I had to go and check and,as you say, there are torx screws for the lock and latch.

So, apart from those places I don't think they are any other torx screws on the car ... unless anyone else can add to the list.

Well spotted , i was aggreeing with the rest , no Torx screws on an Elan . Just checked , 3 on each door lock .

LOL, I refurbed my door strikers a little while ago. Upon mention of torx I was scratching my head as I knew there were some I had had to undo.
