How about a top-level topic for registries?

Postby tigerdog » Fri 08.06.2007, 04:54

How would our illustrious admins feel about a top-level Forum entry devoted to the registries? How about our subscribers. When casting about the 'net for other exotics, many prominently feature the car registries as links from the home page. It would certainly help us newbies learn from folks in their geography. Just a dog-brained thought... :)

TD

I'm sorry, either you're using US-specific terms here, or I'm being incredibly thick.
In the context of your post, what is a registry. Do you mean where cars are registered geographically? Like a members map?

I apologise but your terminology has lost me (two nations separated by a common language...).

Sorry - never write after beers. Anyway, the US database I saw included the location of the car (city/state). That's all I meant. But a members map could be cool. We could use something like www.frappr.com to accomplish it.

With a bit of help from the admins we could generate a map more or less automatically from the location in everyones profile - we could easily embed it on a page here on site too.

as it happens I recently ran a workshop on doing this sort of thing ...

The only drawback is that there are a lot of empty/nonsense locations in people's profiles, but at the same time I guess those who haven't entered a real location in their profile probably wouldn't want to be shown on a map anyways, and I suppose they could easily update their profile at a later date to add themselves to the map...
