Who said it was easy. Spoke to renault, he reckons that those part numbers come off a 19 hatchback and not the convertible  Of course dealers have been known to get it wrong in the past but i wonder.

Bloody french cars!!!!

He did however say that some were 33.57 but it does depend on what ones i want.

There are apparently 2 types due to the year change, one that is riveted on and the other that isn`t.

Do we know what type i should be looking for??

Well its not the type that are riveted on.Im almost certain the car i took them from had a one piece design that went up,across the top and down the other side.
All i did was pull it up till it reached a bit across the top and sliced it there :D .
The yard is a fair distance away from me but il try get back over and take some details.

I had a quick look at one today in a carpark, looked to me like DROMONG said that it is a one piece design (a-post/header seal), roof was up though.

If DROMONG sliced it both sides, it might be worth leaving 3" across the top (header seal) like the original a-post seals.

theelanman, you had better check what you have ordered

erm....
at this point in time I'm not sure if I have the correct part numbers... :(
these were given to me by the guy at chestfield renault...I didnt order from him as I found a scrap dealer with a set in at £40 for the pair...
I'll let you know what they are when they arrive...
they are definately from the cabrio though as he started a conversation with me about the joys of owning a 19 cabrio as he had one too....
what a load of bulls**te i spouted...I dont think that I was sussed...he didnt say anything anyway and told me my bits would be here tuesday :-D
cheers

Is this what all dealers do now....ask for your reg, chasis no., DOB, passport number etc.

Why do they not just take the cash and give you the part?

Seems like a fair exchange!

Just what I was thinking, Dermot. Are they in the business of selling bits for cars or not? Why the 3rd degree?

I suppose it's just part of the joy of living in Mr Blair's legacy Britain. Now we even need certificates for our sporrans.

Never mind, I'm sure that nice Mr. Brown will soon change that but in my humble opinion, it's the sporran wearers who should be certified. :-D

They need the reg number so that they can tap it into the computer and it brings up all the parts drawings and other documents for that particular model. It just makes life a bit easier for them. I dont think theres anything sinister in it!

I was straight up with my local renault dealer that it was for an Elan. I gave him one of the reg's on this thread aswell to help. He didnt care two hoots.

He was most helpful. Faxed me 2 different drawings for different models because we weren't too sure which part it was.....we were looking for 2 seperate seals as apposed to the 1 up and over that it now appears to be.

Now i know it is one piece, I have id it on one of the drawings and I will order it next week.

Unfortunately the part numbers dont appear on the drawing

Quite right, I apologise. I'm afraid I snapped - the sporran licences were the final straw.

Have you checked these guys?
Possibly they already have a suitable profile [check their 100 page catalogue on-line], if not, it may well be viable to have a die made and extrude a 100 feet or so?

I dropped a hint early on in the post that there may be a 'standard' profile of rubber which will do the same job as the Renault items. On the link to the catalogue there are loads of possibilities on pages 42 onwards.

It would need someone with an offcut from the Renault part to try and x-ref it! :poke:
