Think i might have found the problem!

Well i took off the bracket to give the wastegate a good wiggle and wiggled it about a fair bit, it`s nice and smooth now

But i think i`ve found the problem and why it`s not been working properly. The actuator is a forge item and doesn`t really bolt on too smoothly.

In fact it`s at such an angle i think it`s rubbing on the bracket and not moving at all!

So i undid it and found that when it`s all tightened up it doesn`t exactly meet easily. I took a few piccies.

So i think the forge actuator might well be the main problem, what do others think??

Is there a decent replacement or should i try and get an original one??

I`ve bought a chip so reckoning that it`s best to have it as back to standard as possible.

Very uneducated question, but can you bend the arm to the correct angle?

On a similar vein to Ailwyn, I was thinking of taking the mounting bracket off the turbo, putting it in a vice and hitting it with a hammer and block of wood to bend it to give a 'straight' angle for the actuator rod??

is the replacement the same as the O.E. for the pressures it works?

I'd get an O.E. one and put in Alan's chip upgrade and then you should be fine.

Something was mentioned about changing the way the car boosts, later and harder i think the previous owner said.

Well i have the switcher chip sitting in my living room so i think that`s the way i`m going to go.

I could bend or change the bracket but i`m not convinced that it`s doing the car that much good.

The easy way would be to grind the hole that the rod fits through to allow it to go at the "correct angle" The more i put it back to spec the more i can keep an eye on it.

Quick daft question, which way is wastegate closed and which way is open. IE if the lever is over to the left is that open or closed??

I believe that if the lever pushes to the left (as facing the car from the front) the wastegate will be open.

also just foud out that the actuator was specifically made by forge for the car. Don`t know what pressure it opens at though i seem to remember that i`s got a stronger spring than normal though.

Trying to see if i can find OEM one. Otherwise i`m going to have to get forge to make another with a bend in the line.

It would appear that you can`t buy an actuator without also buying a turbo unit to go with it.

Funnily enough i might just give that a miss.

Looks like i`ll be getting forge to make me one doesn`t it. That or i`ll get them to supply me with a spring at the right pressure.

To that end does anyone know what pressure i need to make the unit operate at??

I have a knackered turbo of pinky1 with the actuator still on it, but the bracket is slightly bent, i`m sure it could be straightened/bodged some how. You can have it mate if it`s any use to u

Fitted it on this afternoon and all appears to be well. Will have to take it off again and bend the bracket properly but it does what i needed it to do
