Roll bars

i'm thinking about getting one of those roll bars for behind the seat/seats as my cousin smugly reminded me today 'if it turns over you're dead, you know that dont you Richard'

anyone know if there is a manufactured bar available or do i have to get it made custom??

does the windscreen surround crumple down or is that strong

The windscreen structure is not load bearing, it will go flat if you do roll it.

Search the site and you'll find quite a bit on the LGM Rollbar and also some other discussions on whether it's good bad or indifferent.

I think Marie (LGM) was planning on doing another run of rollbars, don't know if/when it will happen though.

Absolute rubbish, u can flip any car. If u spin and hit grass the wheels could dig in and hey presto u`r on the roof

Yes, Marie looks nicer

I have them on my Elan for quite some time now and still very happy to date.
They are well designed, judging from interviewing with her, knowing that she's put a lot of thought behind them. -VERY- strong too.

What's the solution for the thin hood-frame supports scraping the top of Marie's Hoops when you put the roof up and down? I sprayed mine myself and it has scraped my lovely paint in little arcs across them.

Any tips?

grind the hoops off lol

At some stage i`m going to remove mine and see if i can lower them slightly as someone else has done by a bit of grinding on the side braces
Another thing i want to do is to have the center brace fixed direct to the chassis, which will mean cutting the tub and fitting a spacer but that`ll be in 2010

On my car, they are not rubbing. I just have to work slower at first when I lower the top down. I catch the support bars what goes between left to right side and lift the bar up to clear the top of the hoops as I'm lowering the top down. Fold the top down in two steps. Now I can lower the top at about the same speed as before, it just takes a little practice to get used to it. No rubbing mark on the top of the hoops.

I see your point. Although I am a real weight-hater, I would not scoff at either of the 2 mentioned structures.

It was because of that picture that I decided it a good Idea to build a model of rollbar. That was almost 4 years ago.
