Elan Database

Postby Sy V » Wed 22.08.2007, 14:49

Donations accepted.

I now have a copy of Richard Steele's labour of love.
I will accept input, and I will answer queries by e-mail (or PM but I'd prefer e-mail).
He has all sorts of info, but I will not divulge previous owners' names or contact details - for obvious reasons.

E-mail to sjv@REMOVEeclipse.co.uk with ' Elan Database' in the Title/Subject please.

What I'd ideally like for input is:

Registration
Type "SE/NA" - I'm leaving the 450 RHD and 350 LHD S2s to Gazza!
Colour
Trim
Engine No
Chassis No (VIN)
Build/Reg Date
Miles
Owner
Phone No
Registration Town (ie MWP is a Wolverhampton Reg) if you happen to know it
LHD/RHD and any other info you may consider relevant (open rear VRN or perspex covered etc).

You may give as much or as little as you feel fit.

For enquiries I need your VIN ideally, but I may be able to search by existing or old VRNs.

I have 1250+ entries so far.

Standing by for the deluge...

I assume Richard is not out of the register business, but rather you are helping him collect the info??

Absolutely Doug.

I'll pass on the data at regular intervals.
...and it's proving rather interesting already.

I have received quite a few inputs overnight - thanks everyone. The database doesn't include my stalled track car project and has Paul P as still owning Whitey for instance. These incorrect records and the history of these two cars can be amended with little effort on my behalf and hopefully benefit the community as a whole in the future.

I have also been asked (quite rightly) to expand upon the reasoning behind the database. I don't have a problem here and you have my word that there's no hidden agenda or any other mysterious reason for collecting this info.

It exists purely as a database to help us (present and prospective owners) of the M100 Elans. I see it as another means of expanding our knowledge about all the Elans built (I know that we have no chance of covering 100% of the existing vehicles). But, like the recent incident with the blue SE that is accident damaged and the infamous SE/S2 hybrid that PM discovered some years ago (not HPi recorded), a spreadsheet of facts about as many cars as possible will (hopefully) negate (or make less likely) the chances of such a thing re-occurring in the future.

That's why I said in my original post that you are welcome to donate as much or as little as you see fit. If you're not comfortable about giving certain (or indeed any) details then don't. I respect your decision and privacy.

If personal details are given (like your address and phone numbers) I will enter them but not divulge them in the future without your express permission.

I welcome any other questions on the matter... I will trawl eBay, Piston Heads and the Autotrader at regular intervals to collect what I can, just don't expect me to spend Saturday and Sunday loitering in the Donington car park every year like a certain Mr Steele!

Sy,
How far do you want us to go with this? Service details & mods too? Then you could really tell if a car was being looked after or neglected.

Umm...I don't think I could manage too much detail. let's see how it goes with what I've asked for so far.
I don't mind things like S2 wheels/steering wheels etc.

Good luck with it Sy, and thanks to Richard for opening up his information to LEC. I think you got the short straw out of S2, Norma, Fed, ROW and SE so if there is anything we can do to help, don't be shy.

LEF have a bot which grabs ads off Pistonheads and I believe they are working on getting a link into Autotrader. Could be a useful tool.
