Low boost

Postby Joe » Sun 23.09.2007, 19:46

I'm sure some of you remeber me posting about my boost gauge reading low (0.3bar max). I was told quite rightly to not worry about it as the gauge is bad. But I've always felt that it lacks zing as it seems GTi 16v quick and not at all what I was expecting from an elan.

My elanscan cable arrived and I've just had chance to figure out how to assemble and use it and low and behold max boost on elanscan was 0.3 bar. (running on shell superunleaded full throttle and max revs in the first three gears along a runway)

Where next? I'm a total Elanscan numpty at the moment so what should I be plotting to diagnose the problem. I'm sure the waste-gate is functioning as I can hear it chitter through the K&N when upshifting at full chat.

Hi Joe,
Post up a zipped Elanscan log file. I am sure someone will take a look at it for you.
Good luck

Joe,
One possibility is that it sounds like the BSV is not cutting in. Check that it's still there (underneath the air cleaner) and still connected. A previous owner may have disconnected or even removed it to put a MBC on, then removed the MBC for sale without reconnecting the BSV.

check your throttle cable is tight too - and really giving you 100% open throttle.

I've not forgotten, Elanscan log coming up soon. (when I get back from IOM) I'm working away for weeks on end at the mo which is why my posting is sporadic
