errmmm works fine and yes i`m happy with it, but another Inch is always a bonus :smt044

On a serious note, had it for 2 years and cause it sits lower it does make the gear changing better. It`s not threaded like the stock one just slides over and is held by a grub screw

You just answered my next question before I asked. I was hoping it would shorten the overall height of the shifter an inch or so, so I wouldn't have to do any cutting of the lever. Sounds like it does. Thanks for all the info. I'm going to go ahead and order the chrome w/black logo.

Did I hijack this thread? :smt017

Didn't mean to.

I posted this on another thread also, and somebody replied that they had gotten that knob from that seller a while back and the quality was terrible. Other than that and what's in the item description, I don't know anything.

I got both my shift knob and -brake handle in today. Pretty easy job. I'm very pleased with the result, and the new height of the shifter is perfect.

I want to do some more carbon-fibre, and some more chrome. I'm going to go with carbon-fibre (fake of course) around the triple-guage cluster, and in the tray under the e-brake, and around the heat/ac controls. I'd also like to get dhrome trim rings for those guages. Then I have to do something on the center instrument console to make things match better. There's, like, six different shades of grey/black. How did they manage to make a car with switches, ashtray, etc, all that close together, and all in different shades?

there do exist somewhere (can't recall any more details) chrome rings that fit for the fun boy three gauges.

Yep. I noticed to carpet when I looked at the pic. There are leaves all over my walk and driveway.

I know I just saw those chrome rings in a thread a couple of days ago. I'm trying to find the thread again.

I bought a roll of carbon-fibre look self-adhesive stuff yesterday. Last night I lined the tray under the e-brake, and covered the faces of the switches, cupholder, and ashtray. Although it's obviously not real carbon-fibre, it actually looks pretty good. It ties in with the carbon-fibre e-brake handle, and it cures the multi-shades-of-black-and-gray problem.

I'm going to tackle the AC/heat controls tonight. I'll come back and post a pic or two. Sometime this weekend I'll get the fun boy three gauge surround.

Sorry for being a hijacker. :(

I've put the carbon-fibre stuff on all the center console places now. All I have left to do is the fun boy three gauges. This isn't the best picture quality, but you can see that the carbon-fibre stuff looks really pretty good, and is a huge improvement over the multi-shade stuff in the before picture.

I finished up my carbon-fibre-look trim tonight. I'll post pics tomorrow. I put it on the trim piece around the speedo cluster, and the area of the three guages. It looks pretty good IMO.

I also found some chrome rings on ebay. They're a lot cheaper than the ones in that other thread. The seller has them in sets of two, as they are intended for the heat/ac controls on some Mercedes models ($9.99US +$5.99 shipping, with additional sets shipped free). I asked him before I bought one set, and he told me the diameter of the rings is 56mm. That diameter means the Mercedes controls are the same size as our guages and heat/ac controls. I'm going to test how they look with the one set I bought, and if I'm right about the fit, I'm going to get more, and do the fun boy three gauges and maybe the heat/ac controls.

I'm also looking into chrome trim for the speedo/tach/etc, which I saw several sets of on ebaymotors.uk. They're for the Vauxhall Astra, and the shape exactly matches our instruments.

When fitting a ball type gear knob it makes the length of the lever shorter. When changing to second gear does the front of your wrist not catch the handbrake?

Depends on whether or not a shortshift kit has been fitted.

So you get the short shift fitted and it will be OK but without your going to catch your wrist. Max wants a purple pool ball was thinking of removing the fitting from the bottom of the stock knob, drilling out the ball and popping the fitting in. Does that sound feasible? A&M

Definitely feasible - I've seen lots of pool balls drilled out for shift knobs. Post a pic when you're done! (Or during the process)

If you want to try it for size first, pop along to a meet (Castle Combe next month). There are plenty of us out there with short-shift kits fitted who I'm sure will be willing to let you have a peep at their stick :o
