I got the Kumhos. On stock SE (15) wheels they are excellent. Superb grip in dry, pretty good in the wet, quiet and no more tram-lining. £35 from mytyres.co.uk

Just reshod the fronts after the best part of 25k on them. Outer wear was fine but inner wear was terrible owing to this numpty owner (that'll be me) not getting a full alignment check done when adding the last lot of rubber, and waiting for "abnormal wear" to show up.

Decided to stay with the BF Goodrich GForce Sports, not sure if any others have used them but they are relatively quiet, great in the dry and wet, pretty good in snow and slush and also look reasonably aggressive.

Whilst reading the service manual (as one does) I realised I've been over inflating too, with a max of 32psi suggested for 15inchers, and only around 27psi for those of us on the Fed 16s. I'll adjust accordingly from now on and report back later.

I have used them on other cars, and they are one of my all time favourite tyres, so i hope they like the elan.

On my s2 wheels i am running the Toyo Proxes,they have softer rubber on the outer edges for extra grip on cornering and stiffened sidewalls to stop swaggering. They work great on the elan. They were £244 for four all in,I got them from :

I found the Marangonis excellent, and on a flooded track the grip available was astonishing; unfortunately Kentish potholes have accounted for three so far, so no chance to prove supposed longevity. Currently running cheap & cheerful Kumhos (or will be when mobile again); haven't pushed them hard, but they are easy to spin/squeal from a standing start, which makes you look a prat.

Dunlop SP Sport 01-Just done 10 000 miles on these. Decent tyre in wet and dry conditions, very poor tyre on rough surfaces-tramlining(whitelining) is a constant problem.
Michelin Pilot EXALTO PE2 - Expensive tyre and only done a few hundred miles-Absolutely no tramlining.Car is sure footed and a lot more fun to drive and less tiring to drive for the A to B run..Well worth the extra £20 over the Dunlops.Also have a ridge on the side to protect the wheel.

Recently mounted a set of 205/45ZR-16 Kumho Ecsta ASX. Very affordable! Cost $74.00 each plus $32 for shipping. Mounting and balancing was additional.

Have had them for about two weeks. Very quiet. No issues issues with normal highway. We're going through a drought, so haven't driven them at all in wet conditions.

I was wondering has anyone tried 205/50 R16's? Roads are very bumpy around here (I broke the wheel twice, been very careful recently) The car will be 0.4 inches higher up with these on. (about 1 cm) I remember Doug had fitted something with 225 but don't know exactly, can anyone comment on the height issue?

Just to add to this, I recently got a new (refurb) set of wheels for my SE, 2 had tyres 2 didnt

I replaced the existing rears and used the unshod new pair and went for Nankang NS2 all round. The car isnt a daily driver and I'm not really planning on any hard track use.

I've read mixed reports on Nankang and I wasnt quite sure what to expect (the word "Ditchfinder" was used a few times). My experience is that they're pretty decent in both wet and dry, bit less road noise and dont seem too harsh on ride quality. Havent given them any real stick yet, but seemingly OK for the money, around £35 a corner for 205/50/15

I have never used A 539'S so don't know what they're like, can anyone comment?

I went to get 2 new tyres this week, i've been told the Yoko A539's are now also no longer available.

I know there have been conflicting reports on the toyo T1-R but i've gone for them. I've got the toyo T1-S's on the back already so I'm going to leave them there, and put the T1-R's on the front.

I've got T1-R's all round at the moment, and although I wasn't too sure to begin with (probably because the place that fitted them put 34PSI in ), I'm really starting to quite like them now.
It's odd - perhaps it was due to the dodgy pressures initially, but the ride felt a bit "vague" in the dry. However even in colder and damper conditions (including downright WET), they feel really good.
In fact I'd go so far as to say the worse the conditions get, the better the tyres feel - compared to what you might expect.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R
Performs almost as well as the Azeni 615 and doesn't get greasy with heat.
