hood fitting

Postby router » Thu 20.12.2007, 20:38

Can someone please help, my father has just bought an elan, looks like a new hood had been fitted at sometime (not a good job).
At the rear of the side windows the roof has been stuck down with some velcro and thus is flapping around on both sides. You can peel the roof flap back but i cannot see any fixings this goes from about halfway up the rear glass and about 30 cm along the base of the roof.
Ive looked on mine but cant really see where the roof canvas fixes to does anyone have any ideas here?

hood fitting

Postby discovery » Sat 22.12.2007, 12:00

My hood came loose from frame behind passenger side window 3 years ago. Stitching had rotted away. I used Sikaflex to repair . Hood still attached to frame.

The fabric hood is attached to the loop of steel, that sits on the top of the rear bodywork. There should be a flap of fabric (vinyl) sewn to the bottom edge of the hood and bonded to the inside face of the frame. I bonded mine with evo stick - contact adhesive.

The tension of the hood should hold the vertical edge of the hood in contact with the fall pillar seal, situated on the rear edge of the side windows. I think there is a wire tensioner, like a bicycle brake cable, sewn in the seam of that vertical edge but not 100% sure about that.

Hope this helps.
