They WERE Morris Marina door handles, and they used them right up until the Steven's Esprit facelift I believe.
(I always liked them too!)

It wasn't just the Esprits they used them on. Elite and I believe early Eclats also had them.

This engine picture is from the original "large" 1991 Elan brochure Lotus gave out when our cars were new. I enlarged the original picture somewhat so details may be seen more clearly.

I truly hope this is an example of Lotus only having available at print-time a pre-production mule, as I note several discrepancies from the production engine.
1) LOTUS atop cam-cover is painted red.
2) TURBO stamping on the turbo-heat-shield is painted black.
3) The intake pipe connected to the throttle-body is not smooth & glossy. It perhaps is an accordian-style reinforced-paper tube.
4) The boost-gauge-transducer is mounted with the electrical contacts pointed up, instead of being mounted on its side, as every SE I've ever seen has been.

Is there anything I've missed?

This is common practice in the auto industry:
It's not likely to be a 'Mule' as they tend to be a different car adapted to be used to test components like engine and drive train. That was most likely an Isuzu. An Esprit was used as a Mule for the Evora
It will be pre production model like the one Specky bought of my old neighbour: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=11475
They will most likely use A nice and tidy 'press car' so it's photogenic runs and drives. Usually completely hand built before a production line is created.
