Does anyone have the problem of the back edge -seal marking the lid of the stowage conpartment. When soft top up .Any way of solving this problem.I was thinking to put vaseline along the seal edge to make the rubber more supple and less abrasive .Has anyone tried this ? Or does it just make a mess. Max&Andy

IIRC = if i remember correctly
and armourfend is a transparent plastic sheet that you put ontop of you paint to stop it chipping....or in this case yer rear deck

So you dont rate the lubing the rubber idea ?Does the lid look much differnt when covered? With the plastic i mean not the vaseline smeared all over the place. Max&Andy

why lube?.....you'll just leave a greasey mess on the deck when you put the hood down
the armourfend is totally transparent....so no...you wont see it

people generally put the armourfend stuff on after theyve had a respray or had the deck painted.....
if its marked then it marked and has taken 15 years to get to its current state.....its up to you
if your deck is marked already...what are you worried about?.....

:I agree: I don't think that petroleum products should be used with the seals.

AFAIK vaseline rots rubber dosent it - not the best thing for (what I would imagine is) an expensive rubber seal...?
I've put an armourfend style product on mine - I've still got the paper templates that I used to cut it - nearly threw them out the other day. I seem to remember the sheet of film was about £10, and floating it on wasnt rocket science...
I'll take some pictures when I get a minute, you'd hardly know it's there, and it solves the problem once and for all...

film on eBayPrice looks about right from memory...
Obviously you can see it up close, but it dosent catch they eye (like a scratched deck does...)

Definately NOT vaseline or other petroleum based product on your seals......condoms...rot...unwanted pregnancy etc etc.....
I use a silicon grease on my rubbers - food grade if you can get it (used on scuba orings)

Every cab' I've ever had did this, except the ones where the hood folds without the rear lifting. Only solution is a guard of some description as previously mentioned. Vaseline is supurb for cabriolets with windows that fit inside seals (a proper design that doesn't leak, unlike the crap seals we have!) to stop squeaks that develop over time as the roof flexes over the windows. Great on the Ferrari F355 GTS and SLK's/SL's too... And other hard-top cabriolets.

@Gordon: as you have said it before... one can see nothing on your picture. Very good solution

So what have you protect in detail? The complete lid or only the special section/a stripe?
