CV joint boot replacements?

Postby cjay » Thu 03.02.2005, 13:54

One of my CV boots has split big-time :-[ I noticed on here that Isuzu ones can be used but they were sold never here. Does anyone know if any other GM or easily available boot will fit?

Sorry if this have been covered before and I missed it.

cjay
I wonder what color the next one will be?

Hey, just found the topic I was looking for, however the link provided by Sy doesn't work (probably the old forum link)

I need to replace the drivers CV boot. I am currently looking at a standard universal boot kit (approx £6), however is there a better GM/other make alternative.

Also is there anything special to watch out for on the CV boot replacement as Lotus list 2.2 hours to change one. I am assuming there is a circlip in the back of the joint or is it held on by a pin?

Thanks, Jason

Thanks Sy, although I think I used one of these before and did not last long enough (it may be that I got some of the old grease on the mating surfaces, causing insufficient joint strength.

I will probably try to remove the CV joint completey if I can, if not, instead of the split boot design, there is a stretch fit one, basically the rubber is extremely flexible and slides over a cone, over the cv joint (yes even the small hole)!

If anyone has removed the CV joint, any hints and tips will be welcome,

thanks, Jason
