Wind Deflector material

Postby Galsia » Sat 26.01.2008, 12:26

I've decided to make my own wind deflector, which shouldn't be too hard. The only thing I'm struggling with is getting the right material. I know most companies use nylon mesh but I went into town yesterday and couldn't find anything suitable.

Is there anywhere online where I can get some? I'm interested in hearing from people who have also made their own. :)

You mean it does nothing?

I was thinking of getting one then modifying it to fit over LGMs rollbar. Do think this would be any more effective?

All help greatly appreciated to save me mucking around for ages!

I thought LGM made a plexi one specially for the roll bar. Have you asked her?

I think DeeAitch's head sticks up above the seat because of his height, so the windblock doesn't do much for him.

Yeah I saw the LGM ones which others made similar versions of. I don't like plexiglass! I'd rather have mesh and suffer the reduced performance!

I had one made from tempered glass. Looks quite nice.

Maybe!

Anyway, there are a few SLK ones on eBay so I'll grab one of those and try it out.

Yeah, I'm just over 6 ft tall
Tried hunching down to 5'6" but it still does nowt
Never use it so make me an offer

Might work better on the roll bars as they are higher than the seats.

Yes, I poke above the head-rests as well, but as you say, hopefully Marie's extra inches ( :?: ) will help. The issue I'm trying to combat isn't the flow over the top, it is the massive draught from in between the seats. That's the one that annoys my wife (who funded the initial roll-bar purchase on the grounds that I'd then fit a wind-blocker!).

I'll PM you.

Just noticed a couple of small nicks in the mesh caused by the hood frame trapping it against the seat protector  so if you are tall it's something to watch out for.

BTW I attached mine with a couple of tennax fasteners to the seat protectors and some elastic and poppers to the screws attaching the map pocket between the seats.

Candles, you have PM
