Sy/Matt
I'm a newbie here, joined as I am actively looking for an SE as we speak/type (although that S2 is very tempting Mr Clem! - I did ask Sy to ask you to give me a call!!)
I will, however, enlighten you with what I know about J62 KLR (which I believe is now sold) but in order to do that I need to refer you to other cars, again Sy (who I am also local to) has been more-than-helpful regarding this. In doing so, I hope I'm not speaking out of tone....
J62 KLR was on Autotrader about a month ago - a week later the seller put a burgendy coloured Elan up (reg blanked out). A week after that he puts a 3rd Elan up - A6 LAN - 3 Elans in as many weeks...
I show an interest in A6 LAN and call the seller. Firstly I show concern over his fleet of Elans. He passes on commenting on the burgendy one but states he's selling J62 KLR for his mate (I always struggle with that explanation) - something I find somewhat fishy.
Back to A6 LAN - I ask why he's selling that. It's been his car (for 2 and a half years), he has a new car, no room on the drive, sister now living with the family is using the garage, etc etc....
I go to take a look. Really like the car, can hardly fault it. Really suspect of the seller though. 2 different mobile numbers, things written in the service book in pen or pencil....
After speaking to Sy (on other matters, ie tommorow's meet!!) it became apparant that a good friend of Sy's sold A6 LAN about 3 weeks ago - not to the guy who is now selling it, but to someone else - who passed it on to this guy (for whatever reason????) - so this seller has had it for about 2-3 weeks. He's also selling it for considerably less than what it had sold for 3 weeks prior to this....
So, a highly suspect seller IMO. Sold/selling 3 Elans in as many weeks (privately) - stating he's had the latest one for 2 and a half years when it's obviously 2 and a half weeks. Selling it for a LOT less than what it had just sold for. You can actually check date keeper changed on Autotrader - think it comes up 30/10/07. I gave him a final chance to make amends last night and asked him what was really going on - he was still insisting he'd had the car for nearly 3 years, the change of keeper was down to him taking that reg off the car and putting the original back on (rubbish) - then he started going on about how cars go through his mate's company or summat - he was confusing both me and himself....
Looks an immaculate car but I'll be avoiding it.
