New member on the lookout (Nottingham)

Hi

I have been reading the site for a while and decided to come out of the woodwork and introduce myself and ask some advise.

My wifes birthday is coming up soon and she has expressed an interest in a cheap inported Mazda Eunos (MX5) for a bit of summer fun.

Now, not meaning to be condecending or any way rude to any owners of these fine motorcars, i just cant see myself in one! Hence, "why not consider an older Elan".

Couple of things, we are both quite tall and wondered whether there is enough room for a 6ft 3 driver??
I know people will say "find one in a showroom and try one out" but, to date, i cant find a local dealer who has one?

Secondly, as the people who know about these cars, i would appreciate it if you could advise me on a good one for sale within the club or will be coming up for sale quite soon. I would much rather buy an enthusiasts car rather than a pot luck Autotrader or Ebay car.

Being 6ft 3 isn't a problem in itself - its only like someone who's 5ft 10 with a right fat arse.

Mike Kimberley at 6ft 5in the MD. of Lotus had no trouble driving the Elan, so you should have no problem fiting in the car

Welcome to he site. Joining up before buying is a good move. I didn't but got lucky.
You have probably seen the Elans for Sale section already. If you have not yet picked up on it, WillB is a very respected dealer in West London, and Clemo is another who has a good name for sourcing decent Elans.
You will always find some willing volunteers to check out Elans which are out of your area.

Two things for you-

I am over 6' and I have no problems whatsoever. Secondly my Wife had an MX5 and there is a great deal more room in the Lotus.

Also they are completely different cars, the Lotus is much more of a drivers car, far more responsive and forgiving!

Go for a spin in both?

I am looking forward to the meet at Donington an will sure to visit the LEC "enclosure".

To be honest, i would have liked to have owned an Elan by then to bring to the show but i wont rush into things and will have a good look around whilst there.

Berksturk, I have already tried the Eunos and was not impressed at all. (Sorry MX5/Eunos owners) For a big lad they are a bit ........... toy like!

I will keep my eyes peeled for a good Elan!
