lol i thought you were exadurating when you said that but its not far from the truth. i guess that what happens when you go from 170bhp+ to 0 in a fraction of a second

yep it does pick up better, no idea on figures but you can feel the difference. the video realy doesnt do it justice, im trying to workout how to record it while moving,

only down side is the turbo creep (which doesnt happen to everyone), which has to be said its a bit bloody scary, so remember the wastegate will need boring out by around 4mm, if you get the problem.

im not sure of the technicalities, but for some reason the boost levels raises beyond the norm and the fuel cuts off to protect the engine, so esentialy boost creep involves a sudden and complete loss of power, thats explains the comments about foreheads above. its temporary but scary and dangerous. if you can drive sencibley its wont happen, but if you have a heavy right foot and you proberly will after fitting the peco then its a major pain and needs to be sorted asap.

did you find out why it was doing it? id get that checked out if i were you. is your car modified at all?

what boost is showing on your gauge? also ive done a little reading and it looks like an mbc is normaly fitted with the superchip, if it were me id get rid of both and if i missed the power buy esm's chip. another thought is it couldve been your wastegate sticking, which has been well covered in other threads "wastegate wiggle" comes to mind. im hoping someone with more knowledge comes along soon and either corrects or confirms what ive said....

Look for an MBC as shown in the Wiki.

The 'Super'chip upgrade (several hundred pounds I believe) merely overrides the overboost protection designed into the ECU; this is a safety measure that cuts off the fuel and is designed to save the engine if you get a sensor failure or wastegate stuck shut. The latter happened to me (before I knew I had an MBC) and from off-scale boost gauge and smoke I left in my wake, there was a few extra horses being put down.

The engine is a strong unit, but you will running leaner than normal with an MBC and Paul Watkins has suffered piston meltdown, so I decided to ditch the very expensive agricultural plumbing and go with the Everest which correctly gauges the air/fuel ratio and retains the safety of the fuel cutoff.

I found a superchips leaflet (but no bill) in my service history folder and I've noticed that a previous owner has opened the ECU, so I'm assuming one has been fitted.

The wastegate allows exhaust to bypass the turbo. At low revs, the turbo just gets in the way, so exhaust is directed through the wastegate. At higher revs, there is too much exhaust gas for the turbo to cope with safely, so the wastegate re-opens to control it. With a large bore exhaust, the flow can increase until the wastegate can no longer cope with the excess, so it goes through the turbo (overboost). The boost gets so high that the fuel system cannot keep up, so it shuts itself down... dramatically.

Porting the wastegate increases its capacity, so it can cope with the higher gas flow, keeping the turbo under control.

Sorry to drag up ths thread up again but I can't help wondering how the Peco exhaust sounds from outside the car at full-whack. I was hoping to hear some at Donny but it didn't happen.

I feel like I'm going back and forth like True Blue...

I want an exhaust that sounds more aggressive, not just bassier. I want something like this:

I know nothing about exhausts but I have a feeling that this isn't possible.

I'm not slagging off the Peco because it sounds infinately better than mine at the moment I'm just curious.

Haywood and Scott (Basildon) will do you a nice 2.5" exhaust for about £650. You can't get much better than them apparently.

i'll see what i can do with the camera, but im still waiting on a new clutch and a PCE which i want to get before i port the wastegate, which i need to do to give you a decent drive by sound sample, so its going to be a good couple of weeks, after living with the peco for a while it can become a little tiresome, not unbearable though. I adore the sound of exiges with sports exhausts, theres an s2 that commutes past me fairly often, gives me goose bumps everytime. i like the peco, but i do have the same problem with it as i have most peco exhausts ive heard in the past, its alittle boy racerish, particularly at low rpm, the video does make it sound like a tractor which is harsh, i did get a fraction of a second under a bridge which sounded pretty cool, but didnt feel it was long enough for someone to gauge the sound with. I bet if you talked to dave at peco he'd be happy to help if he can.
