Rustproofing cill box members

Postby Gareth » Thu 07.02.2008, 15:09

Can U help?

I have removed the two seats for re furbishing and while they are out I intend to "waxoyl" the cill box members.

I think I've seen that these already have a number of holes in them inside the car.

Obviously to get at these I need to remove the vertical carpeting and
plastic?? valance/cover strip.

Are the carpets/trim glued on? Any tips for safe removal to allow re fitting?

Gareth :-) :-)

Gareth, the sill covers ( plastic trims ) are held on by, what can best be described as christmas trees, they are plastic connectors & take some getting apart, but they can be replaced, so dont worry if you break one, but try not to break the cover, think there hard to get hold of. The carpet is glued on, & you have to peel off carefully. As with everything on the elan, take your time, especially with trim as most is unavailable now.

They look like Christmas Trees!

They are plastic and very easy to push into a hole, but a bugger to pull out. Imagine trying to push a real Christmas tree through one of those netting machines the wrong way and you'll get the idea!
