Runs for 10 minutes and conks out!

Hi my normally reliable(ish) Elan broke down on me last week.

It was started from cold . I think the engine management light came on (can't remember) and it started misfiring and died after a total drive of 1 1/2 miles of driving. It would not restart.

I left on the side of the road and returned a few hours later. The car was cold again and started first time. I managed to drive it home and 25 metres before my drive it did the same! (I just got it into the drive).

I've been away for 2 weeks. Now it starts, runs for exactly 5-10 mins stalls and wont re-start.

Any ideas? It seems to die when it warms up.

P.S. If relevant, a mouse has lived in the car for a few weeks but has now been caught!! It might have chewed a cable!

Hi Andrew,
I would recommend a good visual check of your ignition leads (looking for chew damage and loose connections). Also, the paperclip test for any fault codes http://wikilec.9600.org/index.php/Check_Engine_Light_Problems
